Semi-professional photographer Yuri Matte lives and works in Tokyo, Japan. He has more than 10 years experience in Medium Format photography. Using a square composition and experimenting with exposure Yuri concentrates attention on the hidden beauty of everyday landscapes and patterns. His personal landscape vision is focused on low-light, gloomy, rainy and foggy conditions. The images for the Indigo Collection capture the natural beauty of Japanese trees and some unique natural light conditions. The roles of trees in landscape and tree subjects are strong elements of traditional Japanese culture and this series is a direct response to the well-known subject of oriental paintings and offers a modern interpretation of the theme. Wide, soft variations of light create a calm and quiet atmosphere, with the image framed so as to intensify these effects.
