Katie Smith's colourful canvases are inspired by nightclub 'flyers', which she collects. The painting process involves imputing the flyers into a computer, and distorting their appearance. The resulting visual effects are then used as a 'palette' with which to compose her work, using heightened colours and a grid-like structure. The original colours from the collected visual information are translated onto canvas with amazing intensity, and produce an overall abstract effect which dazzles the viewer. Katie has recently graduated in Fine Art with First Class Honours, and her work is already proving popular within her home town of Manchester.
