The Artist: Nigel Downer

Nigel Downer works as a lecturer in Photography, based in Surrey, and has been a photographer himself for twenty five years. He has expanded his freelance career alongside his teaching, specialising in all aspects of natural history. Focusing on abstract close-ups, patterns and textures, the combination of lighting, colour, fine detail and design are characteristics of his work. He says, 'Coming from a design background, I approach my subject from an artistic perspective, therefore composition is fundamental to the images I produce'. Nigel has developed an impressive collection of images over the years, and his work is represented by several picture agencies, as well as featuring on television, in books, magazines and advertisements worldwide.
