Ann Bridges works from her studio in North Wales, and produces monoprints based on sketch book studies. This printmaking process involves applying layers of inks directly to the picture surface, allowing each layer to dry before adding the next. By wiping off areas that are not quite dry and drawing into the ink, hidden colours are revealed and the richness of the image is built up. Her subject matter is varied, ranging from pomegranites and koi carp to buttons and childrens' stories, such as the 'Princess and the Pea' series - and the resulting images are simple yet exquisitely detailed, colourful and imbued with a unique sense of character and charm.
