Based in London, Jeff Clark studied painting at Norwich School of Art. His collage works have evolved from the idea of reworking shapes and images of flowers to produce different visual effects. Starting from cutting up a photograph and manipulating the various sections, more images and painted surfaces are added until the whole is assembled into a finished piece. There is an element of recycling in this process, both in visual terms and in the the choice of paint and materials used. Assembling the collages is carefully considered, using a process of trial and error in placing painted surfaces within a chosen frame. This creates an element of chance and playfulness, where unexpected effects combine to create a rich and varied composition of opposing and complimentary visual surfaces. Jeff adds; 'There are many combinations and variations which occur before a final image is arrived at. So the process is one of reinvention and renewal that continues from one piece of work to the other'. The resulting images are packed with colour and vibrancy, with a 'kitsch' style which adds uniqueness and charm to their visual appeal.
