The Artist: George Westren
Self-taught George Westren has been practicing art for the last few years, playing on illusions and perception in his work. 'I love doing pictures . .' George says, ' . . but am never satisfied with the results. I don't think of it as art, just putting straight lines on paper. The designs for the next drawing always come to me while I am doing the current one'. Each piece is painstakingly produced by hand, and is endlessly fascinating to look at as brain and eye struggle to concur. A visual reference to British 'op artist' Bridget Riley is evident, and non-surprisingly George was first inspired to paint after seeing an exhibition of her work. His work is similarly concerned with visual effects and influences, adding his own sense of 'optical play'. George has exhibited widely in London, and his visual conundrums have attracted as much enthusiasm from viewers as he puts into his art!
